This class is all about you! Finding your voice, developing your style. Your choice of subject, style and technique, using acrylic paints. Bring your own reference materials and start a new painting from scratch, bring a work in progress or revisit a painting challenge.

From the Artist: "Develop your voice and take your painting to the next level, or start from the beginning. Wherever you are in your painting journey. My goal is to create an atmosphere of support, encouragement and challenge. We will start each class with a group critique session, then I'll provide info and demo based on the challenges we see. I'll follow that with individual attention, helping you with specific concepts and techniques.  Some topics we will cover: Acrylic painting techniques, choosing a reference, telling a story, composition, focal point, color harmony, color mixing, brushwork, light and shadow, drawing and form, and whatever else comes up! "

Drop ins are welcome! $25 per class. Work at your own pace. Pick up a class when you need help, or come each week. Please reserve a spot as our space is limited!

Bring along what you have, acrylic paints, brushes, support of your choice. Also some sketch paper and pencils

Quick Marketing Tip

Follow every sale with a handwritten thank-you note. This thank-you note adds a warm, personal touch that will let your clients know you truly appreciate their business. By adding one simple line to your thank-you note, you can encourage feedback from your clients, and get a picture of the artwork you sold them that will be of incredible value to you in your future marketing efforts.

The line to add to your thank-you note is this:

   " If you have a moment and would be willing to snap a photograph of the piece, I would love to see it in its new home, and I’d love to share the photo with clients who are considering my work. You can email the photo to me at me@youremailaddress.com

This simple request almost always results in a photo, and often several photos of the piece. Most customers are not only happy to take the photo, they enjoy showing the piece off and love the thought of helping the artist’s career along. Often, the client will also write a little note to accompany the photo, sharing their feelings about the piece. Then you even get a testimonial! Do not allow yourself to get discouraged if your client does not answer you or says they will send a photo but do not. Just go ahead and ask the next client!

Class Starts Thursdays
September 8th 1:00 - 4:00 pm,
$25 dollars drop in session

Drop-in attendance is permitted, but classes are sequential. All levels welcome. Audio Visual presentation and demos!

 Learn building blocks for all forms.  Use ovals, cubes, and cylinders to draw animals and people. Human head study, followed by torso and pelvis.  Introduce 'mannequin' to draw any action pose. Add modified cylinders over top for generalized believable form. Apply to drawing paintings from Renaissance and Baroque.

Writing Your Artist Statement

 Creating a Powerful Artist's Statement
Your artist's statement is your opportunity to share insights about your approach to your art. Keep it simple!

While your biography is your opportunity to tell your story, your artist's statement is your opportunity to share your philosophy about your work. Your Artist's statement should be brief - about 500 words. Avoid the temptation to make it too philosophical. Imagine you are talking to a collector about your work and explaining your motivation and technique. Use language that a collector would understand.
 
What to Include

 You may want to include the following in your artist's statement:
1.    What you are trying to say with your work.
2.    How your subject matter and style relate to your message.
3.    How you developed your technique.
4.    Factors in your life that lead you to create the work you do  (there may be some overlap from your biography here).
5.    How your work has developed over time.

Format
Your artist's statement should be written in first-person. You can keep the layout simple. Include a picture of yourself and a piece or two of your artwork if you wish. Consider getting professional help, if you are having trouble.

This is an eight-week progressive course designed to strengthen figure drawing skills and introduce oil painting materials and paint handling techniques. Using demonstrations, targeted exercises and individual attention, we’ll use oils to review the components of strong drawing skills for the first two classes, then we will paint for the remaining six classes of the course.

Because a strong figure painting is built on a strong drawing!

This course is appropriate for novice to intermediate skill levels. The course will stress observational skills and construction, rendering anatomy, and composition. We’ll explore how drawing relates to painting, color and value, the effects of light and shadow, tonal methods, various modeling techniques, and how to manage a palette and mix colors.
