Nicole Poole: Illuminated Lettering
Join Nicole Poole as she shares the process of creating illuminated letters. ‘Illuminate’ comes from the Latin, illumináre, meaning to light or to glow. Nicole will begin with a drawn letter and embellishments that frame or interact with it. The letter will be inked-in and enhanced with mixed-media to add color and depth.
Nicole is an illustrator, calligrapher and teacher who has studied with various artists and schools concentrating on painting, sculpture, glassblowing, children’s book illustration, calligraphy and design. She instructs in the Portland area and the Oregon coast, including at Oregon Society of Artists.
Join Brooke Walker-Knoblich as she demonstrates how to use oils on a contemporary synthetic paper called Yupo.
The slick surface of Yupo allows oil colors to glide like butter over silk and then releases the paint for a fresh, effortless look when desired. Brooke is excited to share her techniques and artistic philosophies to inspire you to experiment in your own creative practices.
Brooke 's passion for realism comes from her studies in Europe where attended a four-week intensive workshop at the Florence Academy of Art. She earned a BA in Studio Art from UCSD in 2005 and has studied with numerous contemporary impressionist artists.
