The Art of a Veteran with Buck Braden  December 5, 2019 | 6:30-8:30pm | FREE Mr.Braden has been an artist and historian all of his life. Drawing figures, faces, horses and ships was the natural thing for him to do. He attended Fort Hays State University where he studied painting, printmaking, ceramics and design, and minored in history. Buck received his BA in 1969, then spent the next two years in the Army as an illustrator. He returned to Fort Hays where he taught Fundamentals of Art and Printmaking while he obtained a Masters in Art.    CURRENTLY IN THE GALLERY 200 FOR UNDER $200 ART SHOW AND SALE November 1 - December 5 There have been over 30 panels sold so far in the 2019 200 for Under $200 Art Show and Sale. In addition to the  techniques of working in oils and cold wax medium, we will also cover the fundamentals of abstract art elements to help you evaluate your work. FIRST-THURSDAY EVENING DEMO:  August 2, 7:00pm "Perspective in Plein Air Painting," Ken Klos

OSA member Ken Klos will share his plein-air painting knowledge, focusing on perspective. Ken is a senior project architect and project designer, licensed in the states of Oregon and California. He knows his perspective! During this demo, he will show how to apply this know-how in setting up a plein air painting.

SECOND-THURSDAY DAYTIME DEMO:  August 9, 11:00am "Collage Storytelling," Colin Manning

Colin Manning will give an introduction to his medium’s potential for storytelling, personal expression, and social commentary. In the spirit of exploration, he'll show how his collage subject emerges by searching through magazines and books to find images that speak to him.

Colin received his BFA in Painting and his MFA in Filmmaking, both from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1998 and 2000. Through a technique of collage and painting applied “backwards” to glass and plexiglass, Manning conjures up a dynamic confluence of the transcendent and mundane.

ART WITHOUT PASSPORTS SERIES:  Thursday, August 16, 6:30pm "En Plein Air," Greg Lewis

The French term En Plein Air, or "in the open air" refers to drawings and paintings that are completed on location outdoors. This presentation will explore the experience of what the eye sees and the heart and hand express.

The act of painting outdoors has allured artists for centuries to heighten the visual senses, producing either a quick study painting, or a finished work of art. Among the notable plein-air artists are Claude Monet, Mary Cassatt, Winslow Homer, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Vincent Van Gogh, and Winston Churchill, just to name a few.
