OSA Free Art Demonstrations for October!

OSA demonstrations are free and open to the public.  See information about more October demos at osartists.org.

FIRST-THURSDAY EVENING DEMONSTRATION:
Thursday, October 4, 7pm

Variations on the Zorn Palette,  Eduardo Fernandez
Eduardo Fernandez has found the Zorn palette of just four colors to be very versatile for portrait and figure painting. In this demo, he’ll go over how he sets up his palette so that it's built for speed when working with a model. You will learn how this palette arrangement keeps him on track with value and color decisions. Eduardo plans to talk about the works of Anders Zorn, answer questions, and demonstrate how to use a limited palette for color harmony and to create a wide variety of skin tones.
The effects of color and light, direct observation, imagination and love for drawing and oil painting inspire Eduardo Fernandez. Portraits, the figure, landscape and still life are themes in his artwork that he returns to frequently. Eduardo has exhibited in several Northwest venues and has taught at the Portland Art Museum, PNCA and Multnomah Arts Center.

Doors open with informal critique session at 6:30pm.  Demo at 7pm

SECOND-THURSDAY DAYTIME DEMONSTRATION:
Thursday, October 11, 11am

"Portrait and Imagination",  Trifon Markov
Trifon Markov attended art school and studied painting in the classical tradition in Moscow, Russia. For the last four years he has been living and creating art in Portland. He explains that this open-minded city has allowed him to further his art expression and creative style. He found Portland Saturday Market to be a perfect place for making his sketches and portraits as the market draws visitors from around the world.

In his demo, Trifon will create a portrait, starting with a regular pencil sketch to capture anatomical similarities, then moving on to paint and brushes, allowing his imagination to guide him in his process.
The beautiful results are what Trifon Markov is becoming known for; to have your portrait painted by him is to release yourself into his world and allow yourself to become cast in his rich assortment of theatrical characters wherein he paints his subject like a jewel. He is obsessed with flowers and trees and bedecks his subject with them as decorative addition.

Doors open at 10am.  Demo at 11am
