ENCAUSTICS AND OIL PASTEL
with Tammy Jo Wilson
Second Thursday, January 9 | 7-8pm | Free!
This will be during the "Salute to OSA Volunteers" Art Show Opening Reception, 6-8pm
Tammy Jo Wilson works with encaustic paint paired with oil pastel to build dense layers, india ink on paper bringing to life figures that dance on the page; watercolor to create tiny variations of skin tones aided by chance and meticulous brush work.  Her work pulls from her experiences as a female artist navigating the value and expectations of the female body. She is interested in accessing the deeply personal commonalities of humanity using abstracted segments of the body as representations of buried emotional experiences. Wilson is also the co-founder and President of the visual arts nonprofit Art in Oregon.

2020 SALUTE TO OSA VOLUNTEERS

Opening Reception: Thursday, January 9

January is the month we “Salute Our Volunteers” with a show exclusively for them.  Volunteers will be invited to show their work along with the OSA Board of Trustees.  If you have volunteered at OSA in some capacity over the last year, we want to thank you and include you in this show.  As has been policy in the past, gallery sitting during a 2019 show is not counted as volunteer hours.

PROCREATE - ANALOG PAINTING; DIGITAL EXPERIMENTATION
with Ruth Armitage
January 25 - 27, 2020 | 9am - 4pm
Learn how digital exploration can expand your painting process. You’ll use the Procreate app and an iPad to plan and alter works in progress. Learn to use this inexpensive app to try out ideas before you execute them in paint. Ruth will begin the workshop with instruction on using the app to draw, paint, and use layers to experiment on photos of paintings in process.
You’ll then work on your own projects in your choice of water-based media. Acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media are all welcome. The process of using Procreate encourages growth and exploration. It is an excellent visualization tool for new and advanced artists. Please bring an iPad with a current version of Procreate. An Apple Pencil or stylus is also helpful.

PALETTE KNIFE REVELATION
with Steve Kleier
February 7 - 9, 2020 | 9:30am - 4pm
Knife painting leads to bold paintings! In this workshop, you will learn the freedom and structure behind making expressive knife paintings with energy and excitement. You’ll use the control of form and color and make them work with big shapes and strong tone. Learn to “maintain control by relinquishing control”. By seeing the nature of the marks, you can use them to make effects. Steve will give demonstrations and offer individual attention as you gain confidence with the palette knife.  This workshop is best for people who have some drawing and painting experience.

PAINTING EXPRESSIVE LANDSCAPES IN OIL AND ACRYLIC
with Eric Jacobsen
February 14 - 16, 2020 | 9am - 4pm
Loosen up your style and paint expressive landscapes in oil and acrylic. Learn to look at a scene with an impressionistic eye and paint to convey a certain mood. In this workshop, you’ll hone your painting skills and expand your creative language. Eric will emphasize risk taking, abstract design, and mark making, which are three necessary components to take your work to the next level and distinguish yourself as an artist. He’ll cover composition, value, design, choosing a motif, identifying and mixing warm and cool colors, and establishing a focal point. Eric will also discuss some dos and don’ts for landscape painters to consider. The workshop will include informal lectures and demonstrations, group critiques, and individual instruction.  This workshop is geared to intermediate and advanced level painters.
