I often use winter or Christmas themes this time of year. This week we have two images to choose from, both charming in their own way. Contact me if you would like the reference photos for these wintry scenes.

Drawing Fundamentals Tuesday 2-4pm Nov 1 5
This lesson continues our study of the human head. This time we will look at the difference between the male and female head before we try them in watercolor. Contact me if you would like the reference photos. Bring a good size sketchbook and charcoal, drawing pencil or watercolor.

 Drawing and Watercolor Wednesday 630-830pm Nov 16
This week we start our study of drawing and painting the human figure in watercolor. We will start with the basics so this is a good time to start if you are interested in this subject. Contact me for the reference photo. I begin with a charcoal value study then continue with a watercolor demonstration.

Learning the language of Light and Color with Michael Orwick

This awesome 8 week course is going to be full of Michael's favorite color mixes and his tips and tricks to help take your paintings to the next level.
Experience hands on the keys to color relationships and harmony that portray emotion.
Learn new color schemes while exploring your personal color response through Hue, Temperature, Value and Saturation.

Michael shares how artists of any level can bring more energy and better engagement to their work.
This is your opportunity to discover how to manifest Mood and painterly poetry through your brushes.

Class is open to all levels of both acrylic and oil painters.

They are held Mondays at Oregon Society of Arts 9:30 - 12:30
No class January 16th for MLK and February 19th for Presidents Day.

Free Wood Carving Demonstration at OSA!

2nd THURSDAY DEMO  - November 10th, 2016 @ 11 am
 
Stan Peterson
Characteristic Carving in Wood


Stan’s wood sculptures are innocent yet sophisticated. His characters emerge from the wood ready to tell us stories and make us smile.

During his demo, we will learn Stan’s approach to carving, painting practices, and what inspires him. His sculptures are lovingly brought to life from basswood and painted with layers of milk paint and then sanded to reveal subtle layers and chisel angles. Sometimes Stan burns areas of the wood for textural effect.

Stan is influenced by Outsider Art and Folk Art. He began carving driftwood while living in Newport. He later moved to California and took a job with a community of artists at Creative Growth Center, teaching developmentally disabled students the art of woodcarving. Stan is a part of the Waterstone Gallery, works on a steady flow of commissions and teaches an annual class in woodworking at Sitka Center.
