FIRST-THURSDAY EVENING DEMONSTRATION:

Variations on the Zorn Palette,  Eduardo Fernandez
Eduardo Fernandez has found the Zorn palette of just four colors to be very versatile for portrait and figure painting. In this demo, he’ll go over how he sets up his palette so that it's built for speed when working with a model. You will learn how this palette arrangement keeps him on track with value and color decisions. Eduardo plans to talk about the works of Anders Zorn, answer questions, and demonstrate how to use a limited palette for color harmony and to create a wide variety of skin tones.
The effects of color and light, direct observation, imagination and love for drawing and oil painting inspire Eduardo Fernandez. Portraits, the figure, landscape and still life are themes in his artwork that he returns to frequently. Eduardo has exhibited in several Northwest venues and has taught at the Portland Art Museum, PNCA and Multnomah Arts Center.

Doors open with informal critique session at 6:30pm, Demo at 7pm

Simplifying Watercolors,
Tom Hoffman

October 12 - 14   (Friday - Sunday)
$295   register online

If you struggle against a tendency to overwork your watercolors, there’s some good news. This tendency is not about lack of technical prowess, so you don’t have to put in  thousands of hours to get good at stopping!

This workshop is designed to help you identify the essential parts of your painting subject so you can better recognize when you have interpreted it sufficiently.  Clarity of intentions is the key to knowing when the job is done.
We will practice an approach (and a little bit of technique) that makes clear what is most important about the subject at hand. Where do you need to be careful and where can you be carefree? Before you begin a painting, do you know when in the sequence of layers the shapes get their definition? Asking a few questions and making a quick study clarifies how to proceed.

City Scenes in Oils and Acrylics,
Jennifer Diehl

November 9  - 11   (Friday - Sunday)
$395   register online

If you share  the love for the hustle and bustle of the city and all the bright lights that dance around you while you walk the streets, come paint the city with Jennifer Diehl.
Working one-on-one with her students, Jennifer teaches the simplicity that takes an otherwise overwhelming subject and makes it something not only manageable, but fun!   Friday will begin with a lecture and a demo that shows the process and answers questions, then we'll start our pieces! Each persons individuality is crucial and will be focused on as Jennifer comes to each canvas and tailors the learning process to you.  Let's get painting!
