Beginning Watercolor - Step One
Have you always wanted to learn the technique of watercolor painting?

Sept 15, 22, 29 (two week break for WSO) Oct 20, 27, Nov 3, 10, 17
9:30am - 12:30pm for 8 sessions,
$200 for the 8 class session
Learn watercolor basics within your own unique vision in a supportive environment. Improve and refine your painting skills as you learn methods from mixing colors, applying washes, and using tones and values as compositional elements in your paintings. We will begin with simple exercises designed to help you feel competent about your style and skill. Watercolor – Beginning Step II and III will follow each quarter.
Basic supply list:
Watercolor Paper - #140 Lb 100% cotton cold pressed – No Canson or Strathmore Papers!

Arches brand single sheets or blocks are best
The instructor has watercolor paper to purchase by the sheet if preferred – arches 22” x 30”

• Watercolor Pallet with lid or small folding pallet
• Graphite Pencil (4H or 5H) and eraser (kneaded or Staedtler Mars)
• Water Container
• Small roll of paper towels and/or toilet paper
• Drafting tape – not painters tape or masking tape
• Artist Quality paint brushes-minimum of 3 (one of each kind), suggested sizes:
Round: #8, #10
Flat: #3/4”, #1”
Liner: #1, #00, #.10
• Masonite Board for Stretching Paper and holding loose paper with drafting tape
• Watercolor Paints – artist grade (not cottman or student grade)
M.Graham paints are suggested
We will discuss colors at class but for a minimum starting palette recommend:
Gamboges
Azo Yellow
Quinnacradone Rose
Phthalocyanine Blue
Sap Green – Holbein brand is the best for this color
Payne’s Grey
