Instructor Kudos

Oregon Society of Artists member and instructor, Rene Eisenbart, was accepted in the National Watercolor Society's (NWS) open show this fall.  Her accepted painting below; 'Raven Dreams,' led the panel of jurists to consider her for signature membership by submitting three additional pieces for jurying.  We proudly announce Rene has been accepted into signature membership of NWS.
(signature status is indicated by the artist on her work with a NWS following her name on future paintings)

Art in the Pearl

President William Woods and Jenny Chen - volunteer

Oregon Society of Artists was a sponsor this year at Art in the Pearl.  Maybe you saw our full page add in the catalog. Not only that, we had a double booth staffed with people to answer questions and give info on just how easy it is to become a member of OSA.  Barbara Mc Donald, a creative and organizational mogul kept a stream of Painting demonstrations flowing before our visitors.  Enjoy the slide show below; see how our interactive demonstrations are just a taste of what can be found in the new fall classes.  Of course, thanks to all the volunteers.  We couldn't do it without you!

Plein Air at the Pittock!

Steve Klieir's  watercolor class was invited to join him last week for an impromptu plein air session at the Pittock Mansion.  Sally Wickham explains, "We ignored the scaffolding around the facade (see Pittock Website explaining current renovations) and painted architectural form and fauna."  Wickham's watercolor is a light and breezy rendering of this Portland landmark.  Instructor, Steve Klieir, painted another version from a similar view point that captures the morning light.

Steve has taken his class on other plein air summer adventures like Ilwaco Wa. where they painted fishing vessels and cannery row.  His watercolor class resumes on Tuesday, September 10h in the upper class room.  A full listing of fall classes can be found here.  Check here for the current newsletter and remember you don't have to be a member to attend the monthly meetings!
In case you missed it, Oregon Society of Artists will have a booth at Art in the Pearl.  We will be right at Park Place and Couch so stop by and see the non stop painting demonstrators all weekend long!
