Craig Srebnik 3 Day Workshop, June 2, 3, 4. 9am to 4pm

Secrets from the Masters Series — Flesh Tones & Portraits

June 2, 3 &4 , Craig Srebnik, $265 for members - $295 for non-members, 9:00-4:00

Craig’s sinuous, romantic figures are reminiscent of the timeless beauty of Classical and Baroque Masters, combined with the light, atmosphere and expressive brushwork of contemporary Impressionism. At this three day event, Craig will introduce and demonstrate his methods — the “Secrets” used by Classical through contemporary figure painting Masters. Craig's packed evening demonstration at OSA was a perfect introduction to how he teaches. Look for a complete description online. Open to artists of all levels. Demonstrations are in oil.

Growth Reported; Membership and Tree

One Stormy April afternoon in 2007 left a devastating image in the aftermath of a most likely lightning strike. A large limb fell blocking traffic in both directions on Park Place and also struck a neighbor's car.

To make a long story short, the old elm was rotten to the core and had to go. Summer mornings in the Studio are warmer without her shade but I'm here to report her replacement is showing tremendous growth on birthday # 3!!!

Tripled in  height in 3 years since planted

Membership has increased significantly this year with noticeable interest in Friday Mini Workshops  and a sell out for the Myrna Wacknov Three Day Workshop last April. She will return next Winter for another longer, bigger and better one in January. More workshops are in the works so stay posted with your online newsletter .  The evening program and critique group  were suspended for the summer months and have been reappointed to the day meeting time; Second Thursday of the month. Thank you Janet Holt for the great thought provoking insight as critique leader.  Evening Programs will return in September and will be organized by new program chair Nancy Klos. The regular night; Third Thursday of the month will be September 16th.  Nancy is one of the regular instructors at OSA. Check her website for her schedule.

In this 2 day workshop (may 21-22) there will be watercolor problem solving and plein air instruction.
Day One will be taught in the classroom where Ron will take the first part of the day and cover what he likes to call watercolor boot camp. This will consist of how to lay down confident brushstrokes, how to paint light, compositions, figures and other problem areas (students will be encouraged to follow along). After lunch break Ron will demonstrate a painting. The rest of the day students can work on a painting of their choice.
Day Two weather permitting will be on location. Ron will do two paintings of the Portland downtown, one in the morning and one after lunch with time for students to paint after his demo. There will be a critique at the end of the day. Day two is designed to help those studio artists paint quickly, concentrate on shapes and values rather than details and succeed in a plein air setting. There will be a lot of one on one instruction. All levels welcome. For Saturday students should be prepared to paint outdoors. Please bring water, appropriate clothing and footwear
