Paint abstract pieces adventurously and intuitively in this three-day workshop, working on oil paper and Multimedia Artboards. Serena will instruct the basics as well as many of her favorite techniques using cold wax. This medium is a malleable paste of beeswax, odorless mineral spirits, and resin. It mixes with oil paint to create a surface that can be textured, smoothed, layered, and scraped back. You will use a variety of tools to experiment with texture and layers and experiment using lightweight papers to add collage elements that blend in and become part of the painting.

Whether you’re new to the medium or more experienced, you’ll find something in this workshop to inspire you!

Are you interested in placing your art into public and private venues through art commissions? Join us, as Greg will show 2 case studies of the mural planning process to help bring your art into large space installations.

Presentation strategies are discussed and pricing estimates and several funding resources are reviewed. Over and beyond the basic elements of art and the principles of design, Greg provides practical insights and exercises to engage a large audience.

Outlined handouts are provided, as needed. Greg is a mixed media artist and design director. In addition to his art and design studio practice, Greg has taught drawing, painting, and watercolor at Concordia University for over two decades and was co-founder of its libraries’ art & culture program.

WORKSHOP:  Seductive Surfaces and Persuasive Palettes

Develop new ways of seeing surface and color in this two-in-one workshop covering both Grounds for Painting and Color Theory! Take acrylic paintings to a new level as you explore how cololrs interact with each other and a variety of surfaces. Corrine Loomis-Dietz will introduce mineral, modern and historical hues in exercises developed to clarify the characteristics of pigments and help you get maximum versatility and effect from the colors you choose to paint with.  All paints, mediums, gels and grounds are provided by GOLDEN Artist Colors. Bring a 9”x12” acrylic pad (Strathmore 400 Series Mixed Media or Canson Montval), paper towels, and a sack lunch.

Scott Gellatly Workshop

From a post on Scott's blog; " I'm pleased to announce my upcoming workshop, Exploring Color Palettes - Make Color work for you in Still Life, at the Oregon Society of Artists in Portland. This one-day, hands-on workshop will be held on Saturday, January 5th from 9am - 4pm.

This workshop will explore various color palettes, while focusing on the three main components of COLOR (Value, Hue, and Chroma) in Still Life Painting. We will work with each component of color individually through small studies, and then tie them all together during longer painting sessions. The goal of the workshop is to encourage you as a painter to develop a personalized color palette that supports your own, unique artistic vision.

The workshop will start with a lecture demonstration on Color Space, pigment history, and color palettes. There will be color-mixing and painting demonstrations throughout the workshop. Most of the workshop, however, will be painting time to put these concepts into practice.
